PUBLISHING SOUTH ASIA FOCUSED RESEARCH IN TOP MANAGEMENT AND INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS JOURNALS
DATE: SATURDAY, AUGUST 29,2026
TIME: 6.30PM – 8.00PM IST
Workshop Focus (for Doctoral Students & Early-Career Faculty)
This session is designed for doctoral students and early-career faculty who conduct research on management and international business (IB) topics in South Asia and aim to publish in the world’s leading journals—primarily based in the U.S. and Europe. Although Western academic journals have become more open to research from developing-country contexts, significant challenges remain for scholars working in or on South Asia.
Participants are expected to come prepared to share their experiences with carrying out and publishing South Asia–focused research in top-tier outlets. In particular, attendees should bring:
- A concise list of challenges they have encountered (e.g., building theory from context-rich data, addressing reviewer concerns about generalizability, navigating access to field sites, positioning qualitative work for mainstream IB/management journals)
- Strategies they have tried—or are considering—to overcome these hurdles
The speaker will share parallel insights drawn from four decades of research and editorial experience, with special attention to publishing qualitative studies. Two sample articles will be provided in advance; participants are asked to skim them before the workshop to facilitate an informed, practice-oriented discussion.
Who should attend:
- Doctoral students in management, IB, strategy, organization studies, or related fields who are developing or revising a South Asia–focused manuscript
- Early-career faculty (Assistant Professors, PhD Students and Faculty members,Visiting Faculty) seeking to strengthen their publication pipeline in top journals
Preparation:
- Come with at least one ongoing or planned research project on a South Asian context
- Skim the two attached sample articles (qualitative, South Asia–focused) before the session
